What app-less swapping taught me about engineering for impact.

I joined Kofa to work on infrastructure that directly affects how people move and earn.
Energy, mobility, infrastructure nothing here is simple, and that’s exactly what makes the work meaningful.
A few months ago, we started building something ambitious: app-less battery swapping. The goal was simple on paper, allow riders to swap batteries without using a phone. The reality was anything but.
This feature required tight orchestration between IoT hardware, backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and real-time communication protocols, all working seamlessly between the battery, the swap station, the motorcycle, and our platform.
I actively asked to work on this project. Not because it was safe, but because it was the kind of challenge that forces you to grow into a new role rather than sit comfortably in an old one.
It pushed me to deepen my understanding of IoT systems, distributed backend architecture, and cloud engineering, far beyond what I initially expected. There were moments of doubt, a lot of learning, and many iterations.
Then came the first real users.
Watching riders complete a swap in under a minute, without a phone, and immediately get back to work made everything click.
Less friction. More uptime. Direct impact on their daily income.
That moment reminded me why I build systems in the first place: technology only matters when it disappears and lets people move forward.
2025 raised the bar for me and for what we’re building at Kofa. 2026 is about scaling this impact even further.
